Hi there, Pangaeans!
If you've been following my Twitter and Facebook, you'll know what to expect, especially the more fleshy details about what I'm doing and what I've been up to. This is going to be my lengthiest one yet, so I'll break it down so you can scroll to the parts you like. REAL LIFE STUFF If you're caught up on the news, then you know what's been going on in New York. If you haven't, now's good chance for you to find out. Here's the thing: I'm an Uber driver too. Because of what some idiot did, I was out of work for a week because of #DeleteUber. I get why they did it and I don't fault people for it. I just wish they wouldn't take it out on all of us. People should also be getting mad for hailing Uber too. I know a point needs to be made, but let's get mad at EVERYONE, not just who we want. Anyways, I drive for Lyft now and am back to work, but still with debts to pay. I might even be working for a friend who's also trying to achieve his dream, but I won't sacrifice mine for his. We're still working on details THE ADVENTURER'S JOURNAL Yup, still on hiatus. I spoke to a buddy of mine and he will be offering me his services towards helping me progress through some of the more difficult Missions (mostly Miirah's), so I can get to writing right away instead of grinding. Talk about good news! But I can't afford one account, let alone two, so that's on the backburner for now. But I'll be glad I can get to writing for you all again. THE LEGEND OF PANGAEA Ok, this is the meat and potatoes of this week, so I'll be breaking this down into parts: ---THE GAME'S DIRECTION After a lot of thought and consideration, I've decided to split the game into two parts: "The Legend of Pangaea" and "The Legend of Pangaea 2." Reason being is that there are going to be a LOT of mechanical differences. The original plan was to have your level reset once Part 2 kicked in to show the timeskip to Part 2's story. The battle mechanics would be a bit different and you'd lose all your spells and Techs that you earned along with all your armor and weapons. Basically, you'd lose a lot and gain not enough to justify it, hence the split. As I mentioned before, The Legend of Pangaea is inspired by the fanfic, "The Incredible Poke-Odyssey." The original writer had the story split in two (technically 4, but it was easy to integrate the last two stories he wrote into Part 2). I tried to resist this by writing two stories into one, but there's no way to make it work how I want it to. The cop out would be to lower the level ranges in certain areas so it could integrate, but it's not as fun that way. Both games will have multiple endings and both will have a "True" Ending (the canon ending, if you will) only achievable if you complete the game completely. There is also a "Good" and "Bad" ending too. There won't be a "Part 3" for the series for two reasons: 1) The fanfic writer ended his series with a special chapter that made it clear he put the period mark on the series. He handed the title over to a friend and fellow writer, but they clearly abandoned the project. Unfortunately, there is also very little content for me to work with as well, so I decided not to pursue it. 2) Because his short stories, I was able to put a period mark of my own that would (hopefully) tie up all the loose ends in Part 2. I couldn't think of a better plot, a more fearsome villain, nor could I redo Pangaea without rehashing the whole story in some way. Part 2 is the ending of the series. ---ADDITIONAL CONTENT The creatorof the fanfic made a side story. This inspired me to make a couple of my own. Yes, that's right, there will be side-story DLC that will be released not long after The Legend of Pangaea is released. One is about Ace and the other is what I'll call "The Midquel" for now. The first one to be released is called "The Adventures of Ace." Yep, the story of Ace will be told! In a lot of ways, you could consider this the "prequel"of the story, but I don't see it that way. Regardless, this will tell the story from the beginning when Ace started on his adventure to...well, you'll see. It will play a lot similar to The Legend of Pangaea, but I want to try to make it look as retro as I can. The story will be recapped and several scenes will be shown in The Legend of Pangaea, but I figure some players would rather see for themselves. It won't be a quick game, but because it's a side project, I'm treating it as such. Depending on the length, I may scrap the add-on content tag and treat it as a full game, but I'm hoping to avoid that. The second up is what I call The Midquel.....because it's a sequel to Part 1, but a prequel to Part 2 at the same time. It's in the middle....Midquel. No? Moving on. The story will bridge between 1 and 2, obviously, and will involve a different character. Because of their peculiarities, I'm switching it up in this one and making it survival-based. What does this mean? You have to go through numerous levels and reach the end without dying. There are only 2 save points in this: before, and after, the dungeon. Only reason I put after is bragging rights reasons The monsters there can be fought and defeated, but you won't get any healing items in any form, nor will you have healing spells. You also can't level up, so don't even bother. Sadistic, you say? Well, it's meant to be a survival game where you avoid the monster. It's a puzzle solver. Oh, and Dash will be disabled too. There are a lot of reasons for that. I'll get into it more when I start working on it. While this explains some of the events in Part 2, you're not required to play it since Part 2 will recap it anyway, so you won't be missing out. Neither of these games are required to be played in order to understand The Legend of Pangaea. It's just there to flesh some stuff out or for folks who want to expand the story some more. It won't stop there. I have a couple other ideas, but I want to save those. ---LOCALIZATION I realize I never touched this subject so I'm touching it now. I fully intend to translate this game, but I want to do it in English first. Mainly because it's my native tongue and easier for me to write. Also it's because I want to finalize the script in every way so it'll be easier for me to translate it all instead of write something new. Now, as I speak English, French, and Sarcasm, you can bet there will be mistakes. I'll be glad to fix them, but if you're a native speaker, I need to know what's wrong. Point it out, tell me why it's wrong and what it should be, and get a place in the credits for your contribution. Right now, the only languages I have planned besides English, are Spanish, Portuguese, and Japanese. Now keep in mind that's just to start. If enough other speaking countries reach out to me, I'll make a localized copy in their language too. But I won't make it if it's just one or two. It's gotta be at least 50 for it to be worth it. FUTURE PROJECTS That's a full plate, isn't it? Well, add some more to the pile, because I have other plans! Besides the Add-On games, I've also decided to make a Star Wars: The Old Republic story series based on the heroes and villains in the main story. After some consideration, I've decided on the Republic staying as Light Side and keeping the Empire characters Dark Side oriented. I've also decided who will be what gender for the sake of fluidity for the story, but I won't pursue the romantic aspects of the story. I'll write this as soon as I get The Adventurer's Journal back on first. So what's left for me after The Legend of Pangaea series ends? Well, don't worry, I have two other games I have in mind. Unlike the others, though, these two are stand-alones. Probably should have started with them, but Pangaea is something I wanted to bring to life forever. Ok, I've been up all night and I'm sleepy. Time to hit the sack. I'll try to get the fixed 3.0 up before Saturday is over. Thanks again everyone for all your support!!
